Avoid “Teavolve” At All Costs!

November 11, 2009

I recently had a terrible experience at the Baltimore Tea House called “Teavolve”. The service staff is fine, the food is satisfactory, but the amount of disrespect I encountered after inquiring about the owner was astounding. The owner, Sunni Gilliam, is not approachable or able to be contacted. She will ignore you and sit on her computer in the corner of the establishment all day. I have personally overheard her tell her staff that she is not there when the phone rings.

There seems to be a revolving door of employees as well. This says something in support of the notion that Teavolve in Baltimore is one of the most poorly ran establishments in the city.

Chantix vs. CigArrest

March 25, 2009

Here it is, 2009 and we still do not have a surefire medication to help stop smoking cigarettes and the cravings that go along with nicotine addiction.  Why is this?  There is a bunch of hullabaloo surrounding major-pharmaceutical company releases, but very little investigation into holistic or herbal healing.  Products like Cigarrest are glazed over or scoffed at because their product constituents are basic and herbal in nature.  Cigarrest (and other holistic or herbal remedies to battle addictions) get the “new age and unfounded” branding by officials.  Moreover, they crank out artificially-derived chemical pills to battle these addictions the “sanctioned way” – all while issuing potentially fatal caveats in parallel with their products to the eager consumer.  Nobody likes to admit it, but the Food and Drug Administration is very keen at watching their backs when it comes to issuing warnings about new products.  The FDA frequently releases Public Health Advisories about certain products, effectively ridding them of any future liability.  Some are heeded, others not.  The latest drug to be introduced in the “stop smoking” and “nicotine cessation” arena is a pill called Chantix.

Chantix, among many of Phizer’s other concoctions, are quickly proving to be doing more harm than good.  In May of 2008, only a couple of years after Phizer approved Chantix,  there were over 6,000 adverse drug reaction reports, with nearly half of those resulting in serious injuries.  There were also 78 deaths, with 28 of them being from suicide.  Check me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that the most for any drug in U.S. history?

So ask yourself:  Is my medication truly the best remedy for my ailment?  Am I simply enamored by the fact that my doctor reeeally wants me to use his recommended drug?  If you doubt either of these, please try an alternative method than that afforded by our corrupt pharmaceutical companies.

Tom Hogan and Hogan Realty Escondido – Mismanagement At Its’ Worst

December 3, 2008

In my opinion, Tom Hogan of Hogan Realty  Escondido, Ca is a suspicious landlord.  Most of us have had good and bad landlords.  You always hear about them being overbearing, nosey, and some… just downright mean.  Even some portray a real upright and venerable person.  Well…wolves use sheepskin every once in a while.  With that in mind, let me introduce you to Tom Hogan of Hogan Realty in Escondido, California

In my opinion, Tom personifies the “guy’s guy” and will chum up to you while you are on time with rent and are basically being a “quiet tenant”.  He will rouse a bit if you need an old appliance replaced, or any other maintenance work.  He does not like to be bothered.   In my opinion I would NOT RENT from this guy during this time of economic woes in the real estate industry.  Tom Hogan likes to do things “off the books” as they say, and when it comes down to making good to his tenants, he will say he doesnt owe deposits, etc.  He will manipulate all legal aspects in his favor.  Know that this landlord will use EVERY benefit afforded to landlords, by law.  When I originally pleaded with him to prorate at least SOME of my deposit, he told me “take me to court”.    Well, Tom I have different ideas.  The court systems are already clogged enough with petty bullshit.  So I would rather just save another innnocent person from going through unprofessionalism, so here lies my OPINION of Tom Hogan of Hogan Realty Escondido.

Take pictures of everything.  Hold this one accountable.  Caveat emptor, when dealing with this Escondido landlord, Tom Hogan.

Update:  Tom Hogan Realty is at it again.  Please take a look at this email that was sent to the REAL plaintiff:

XXXXXXX,

If you think I will not react to your slanderous article you are sadly mistaken. In speaking with my attorney yesterday I have a case against you on 2 fronts. One for slander and defamation of character and the other is small claims action for the excess costs of repairs at Pacific. The latter is approximately $2200. If you think losing your deposit was expensive wait until you start moneying up your attorney costs and the repair costs. I will give you until a couple of days to remove the article or be prepared to defend yourself in a court of law. I swear to God on my mothers grave I will come after you as much as the law will allow.

Tom

…isn’t that cute?   I bet you just can’t wait to rent from this guy!!    Newsflash Tom:  this is not an “article”.  it is not attributed to any major news release platform.  It is called a “blog“, and anyone with moderate computer acumen these days can voice their opinion.

Kleiman Evangelista Eye Center

November 3, 2008

When I visited Kleiman Evangelista Eye Center back in ’06, I was impressed with the amount of attention to detail they exuded. From the time I walked through the door to the time I left there was always someone there, reassuring me and walking me through the steps of my procedure.  It was unnerving to know that I would have laser treatment on my eye for the first time, but the reality of it was so close to what they described to me that I don’t really know why I worried in the first place.  The procedure was relatively quick, and I must say that after the recovery period I was thrilled.  Thank you, Kleiman Evangelista Eye Center. You helped me through a troubling time for me.   You rock.  I want to go back to you just to see if you are doing the new WaveFront Guided Mapping technology for LASIK procedures.  I guess you could call it WaveMapping LASIK technology.  This LASIK procedure is new and I want to know if Kleiman Evangelista uses it or not.

Deciphering the Dr. Thomas Tooma Results

September 12, 2008

I have recently noticed a lot of internet entries, submissions and blogs about a Dr. Thomas Tooma.  Being a former LASIK patient myself, I have been intrigued with any type of internet buzz around or concerning LASIK doctors.  I have often wondered what impels a person to write ad nauseum about a particular procedure or doctor.  I did some research on this Dr. Tom Tooma.  Nothing of note.

What you will notice now, is that all over the internet there are users who are fed up with seeing references to Dr. Thomas Tooma when the inclusion of his name has absolutely nothing to do with the page or search query originally made for Dr. Tooma.  There are YouTube videos that seem to show various copyrighted videos used to parlay the name Dr. Thomas Tooma.

Johnson-Law Clears the Air on “Employer Responsibility”

June 4, 2008

I have just lost a bet.  A bet a few weeks back between an acquaintance and I that centered around the idea that if an employee were on the clock and were drunk driving, it would be the employer’s fault in the unfortunate instance that the employee damages property or hurts someone.  I always looked at it through the scope of “We are all adults and we all are responsible for ourselves”.  This was my shortsighted argument when he bet me that an employee could leverage a lot of the financial responsibility on the boss and win legal cases on that premise. I said “hell no, not possible” and took the bet. Eventually, I came across this article from the Johnson-Law Firm.  I owe him lunch now.

CrystaLens Procedures and the Kleiman Evangelista Eye Center

May 29, 2008

The new rage in self-improvement seems to be the IntraOcular Lens implants that have been sweeping the nation, namely the CrystaLens procedure, for one.  When you actually consider the technology being used in these little suckers, it’s no wonder that they are achieving critical acclaim.  You see, (sorry for the pun), an IntraOcular Lens actually goes one step further than your traditional “above eye” contact lens. A brief look at the Kleiman Evangelista Eye Center and their webpage tells you about this groundbreaking product.  These little lenses are actually implanted under the corneal flap of the eye and actually use muscle fiber tension to adjust the lens for quick focusing on objects up close, or far away.  No more worrying about reading glasses or nearsightedness.  Here’s a bit on how it works:

As you age, your ability to quickly focus at varying distances decreases. This is called presbyopia, and it is the reason many of us need reading glasses or bifocals. The CrystaLens® IOL is a permanent lens that is surgically implanted by Dr. David Kleiman or Dr. Anthony Evangelista to effectively improve vision at various distances.

The main advantage of the crystalens implant is the fact that it is the first and only FDA-approved IOL to provide accommodation. Accommodation is the ability of your eye to focus on a wide range of distances. Because of this unique feature, the crystalens is more successful at delivering great vision at all distance levels — near, intermediate and far.

The key to the superior results of the crystalens is the hinged design. This hinge allows the lens to move with your eye as you shift points of focus. Because of this, the part of the lens that you see through is constantly able to adjust your focus for optimal results. This is an improvement over other IOLs, which remain stationary in the eye, decreasing versatility and range of vision.

So far, little or no problems have been cited regarding this technological marvel.  As time progresses, our valued LASIK doctors and opthalmologists will remain highly regarded as the “cutting edge” in eye care and the pursuit of 20/20, perfect vision.  (Sorry, there was that pun again)

Kleiman Evangelista Eye Center Helps 100 people

April 16, 2008

ARLINGTON, TEXAS – In just 100 minutes on April 9, the lives of 100 low-income people in cities and towns across the country will be changed forever as their failing eyesight goes from murky to new-found clarity at all distances with crystalens® cataract-lens implants … free of charge.

Dr. Anthony W. Evangelista of the Kleiman Evangelista Eye Center in Arlington will be among a select group of ophthalmologists nationwide to participate in this unique program – Changing 100 Lives in 100 Minutes – which not only can dramatically improve patients’ eyesight, but also will mean many of them may never need eyeglasses again.

Bausch & Lomb, which manufactures the innovative crystalens intraocular lens for cataracts, will donate 100 pairs of these lenses – generally not covered by private insurance or Medicare. Then, from coast to coast, 100 participating ophthalmologists … including Evangelista … will perform crystalens implantation surgeries simultaneously during the next hour and 40 minutes … at no additional charge.

This national effort will begin promptly at 7:30 a.m. Eastern daylight time with the implantation of the 100,000th crystalens.  Crystalens is the only intraocular lens that  uses eye muscles to focus in much the same way as the eye’s natural lens, and is designed to provide clear vision at all distances … near, intermediate and far.

The 100,000th crystalens surgery will be performed by Dr. James P. Gills, founder of St. Luke’s Cataract & Laser Institute in Tarpon Springs, Fla.

Evangelista joined Kleiman Evangelista Eye Center  in 1999.  Board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and the National Board of Medical Examiners, he specializes in LASIK; crystalens implantation; no-needle, no-stitch, no-patch cataract surgery; glaucoma and corneal surgery; and pediatric and adult strabismus surgery.  Evangelista has performed more than 10,000 cataract surgeries since he began practicing in 1996.

A University of Minnesota graduate, Evangelista earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School.  He completed his internship at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, and his ophthalmic residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

Kleiman Evangelista Eye Center is located at 3025 Matlock Road.

The crystalens design is based on the human eye and uses the eye muscle to focus on objects at all distances.  It is the only lens to use the eye’s natural focusing ability and is the first and only such lens to receive FDA approval.  Few crystalens patients have experienced problems with night vision, halos or glare.

“Typically, crystalens lenses are available only as an elective upgrade to conventional lenses paid for by government programs or private insurance,” says Evangelista.  “The crystalens has been an extraordinary success, and we wanted to help share this wonderful technology with people who usually couldn’t afford it.”

Bausch & Lomb is a multi-billion-dollar eye-health company headquartered in Rochester, N.Y., where it was founded in 1853.  It employs 13,000 people worldwide and distributes products in more than 100 countries.  The company’s primary product categories are contact lenses, lens care, pharmaceuticals, as well as products for cataract, vitreoretinal and refractive surgeries.
